Brightpoint invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Writing Center Coordinator in the Academic Resource Center. This role includes managing daily operations, supervising staff, promoting the center, and ensuring the quality of services offered. Responsibilities include scheduling, training, and evaluating tutors, as well as maintaining the center’s resources and budget. The Writing Center Coordinator will also serve as a liaison between the Writing Center and the broader campus community.
Core Responsibilities
- Recruiting, interviewing, training, and onboarding new tutors, both professional and peer tutors.
- Scheduling and supervising staff consisting of professional and peer tutors, including managing the center’s schedule, ensuring adequate staffing for all hours of operation (both in-person and after-hours), supervising tutors, and providing guidance, support, and feedback on tutor performance.
- Evaluating tutors and providing professional development activities to enhance tutor skills and knowledge.
- Maintaining and updating writing resources, including style guides, embedded tutoring materials, reference materials, and technology.
- Tracking student usage, consultation data, and other relevant information for reporting and assessment purposes.
- Serving as a point of contact between the Writing Center, faculty, and other campus departments.
- Conducting outreach activities such as class visits, workshops, and presentations to raise awareness of the Writing Center’s services.
- Working with faculty to integrate writing support into the curriculum and address specific writing needs within different disciplines.
- Directing tutoring sessions with students, providing feedback and guidance on their writing.
- Gathering feedback from students and faculty to assess the effectiveness of the Writing Center’s programs and services.
- Keeping up to date on best practices in Writing Center theory and pedagogy.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
Experience working in an academic resource center in a college or high school setting, along with prior experience in teaching and/or tutoring—particularly within a writing center—is required. Strong interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills are essential for effectively managing the center and its staff. Successful completion and passing of a criminal background check is required.
Additional Considerations
Bachelor’s degree in English or a related field; Master’s degree in English, composition, rhetoric, or a related field. Experience with software such as TracCloud or Navigate and Learning Management Systems such as Blackboard or Canvas. Experience with Microsoft Office, Zoom, and Google Workspace.
