About the Role
We’re looking for a highly skilled Graphic Designer with 7–10 years of experience and deep expertise in design systems, Figma, and designing for software, web, and mobile products. In this role, you’ll play a central part in developing and maintaining the GM Design System, including creating reusable components, documentation, and guidance—ensuring consistency, accessibility, and quality across our digital platforms.
You have an affinity for modernism and bring strong systems thinking and a passion for scalable, well-documented design. Your craft is rooted in clarity, structure, and functionality—not just aesthetics—and you’re comfortable collaborating closely with engineers to ensure high-fidelity implementation.
You’ll work cross-functionally with teams building for vehicle OS, web, and mobile platforms, helping ensure that the design system remains unified and shared across experiences as much as possible—while still supporting platform-specific needs.
Key Responsibilities
Design and maintain robust, reusable components and patterns within the GM Design System to ensure consistency and maintainability.
Build and manage shared libraries in Figma, including UI kits, tokens, and documentation.
Design component, guidance, and documentation pages for Figma UI Kits.
Partner closely with front-end developers to ensure designs are implemented accurately and efficiently.
Participate in grooming and sprint planning sessions to align system updates with development timelines.
Create documentation, usage guidelines, and specs for system components.
Ensure accessibility, scalability, and consistency across digital products.
Collaborate with product designers, engineers, and brand teams across vehicle OS, web, and mobile to unify the system and encourage shared design language.
Conduct audits and propose system enhancements based on product needs and user feedback.
Advocate for best practices in systems design, tooling, and handoff workflows.
Support and mentor a small design team (2–3 designers), fostering collaboration and professional growth.
Qualifications
7–10 years of experience in digital product design, with a focus on design systems and component-based design.
Deep expertise in Figma, including auto layout, variants, tokens, and library management.
Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and a solid understanding of vector-based design and iconography.
Experience designing for web, mobile, and software products, with an understanding of responsive and adaptive UI patterns.
Ability to document and communicate design decisions clearly and collaboratively.
Experience working directly with front-end developers in agile environments.
Strong knowledge of typography, visual hierarchy, and UI best practices.
Experience with versioning, naming conventions, and scalable design workflows.
Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG), prototyping tools, and design tokens.
Prototyping click-throughs.
What We Value
A systems-oriented mindset with an outstanding eye for detail and consistency.
The ability to translate complex design needs into elegant, scalable solutions.
Passion for collaboration—especially across design, engineering, and platform teams.
Discipline in documentation, file hygiene, and naming conventions.
A belief that the best design systems are built for real-world application—not just theory.
