We partner with family temporary housing sites across New York, educational institutions, and community organizations to create a strong support network for young people experiencing homelessness, helping them overcome challenges and forge their own path to success. We connect students with our mentors for in-person and online programs.

About Us

Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing social-emotional learning, academic support, and mentorship to students ages 5-18 experiencing housing instability in New York City. We also operate creative initiatives such as Promise & Thread (sustainable fashion) and Threads of Voices (storytelling + podcasting). Our work blends education, culture, and community, and we’re building digital platforms to amplify our impact.

Role Overview

We are seeking a creative and skilled Website Designer to join our growing team. The designer will be responsible for creating visually engaging, user-friendly websites that reflect our mission and connect with diverse audiences. You’ll collaborate with our program, fashion, and media teams to design web experiences that are both functional and inspiring.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop websites for MAP, Promise & Thread, and Threads of Voices.
• Translate brand identity into clean, responsive, and accessible designs.
• Collaborate with content creators to design layouts for blogs, campaigns, and e-commerce (Shopify/WordPress/Wix).
• Ensure mobile responsiveness and cross-browser compatibility.
• Integrate multimedia (video, podcasts, photography) into the user experience.
• Provide ongoing updates, troubleshooting, and design improvements.
  
  

Qualifications

• Strong portfolio of website design work (nonprofit, creative, or fashion projects a plus).
• Proficiency in platforms such as WordPress, Wix, Shopify, or Squarespace.
• Familiarity with HTML/CSS; JavaScript knowledge a bonus.
• Eye for design, typography, color, and UX/UI principles.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with a mission-driven team.
• Passion for social impact, education, or community-based initiatives.
