Position Summary

This recruitment will be used to fill one (1) part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Content Creator Marketing Specialist for the College of Science Admin at Oregon State University ( OSU ).

As a content creator for the College of Science you’ll ideate, pitch and create trending and trend-setting content for Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and LinkedIn that shares with our Science community and future OSU scientists what studying science is like at OSU . This is a chance to grow as a science communicator, sharing both the student experience at OSU and Science major insider content.

What you’ll do:

-Tell the Team Science story by highlighting our passionate students and accomplished faculty

- Shoot and edit video using common editing tools like CapCut, Adobe Express, Canva, Edits

- Leverage social media as a tool to achieve marketing team goals

- Learn to work from a brand strategy and function as an important member of the marketing team

- Get future college students excited to choose OSU’s Team Science as their education destination

- Keep current Team Science students informed about the latest updates from our College, and engaged in our Science community

- Showcase our impact on the world through the power of science

- Use data insights to take our content to the next level, innovating and iterating to push growth and engagement

- leave with a paid internship in science communication on your resume, an experience to leverage in myriad career options

Position Duties

  • Create original Team Science content (videos, reels, photo carousels, etc.) on Instagram, TikTok primarily; Facebook and LinkedIn secondarily – share what life is like as a science student!
  • Work under the Assistant Director of Marketing with other interns to strategize and create content for social media, especially Instagram and TikTok.
  • Show up with big ideas and be ready to execute
  • Review College and University social media to stay current on trends, events and ideas
  • Curate and share content from other OSU accounts and science-focused accounts
  • Moderate the account, responding to comments and building an online community by commenting on our OSU sister accounts
  • Organize and present content plans, calendars, analytics and areas for improvement
  • Moderate all user-generated content in line with University and College policies and brand
  • Together with the Web and Digital Communications Manager, capture and analyze appropriate social data/metrics, insights and best practices, and then act on that information to improve engagement
  • Act in accordance with social media guidelines as you represent Team Science
  • Attend College of Science events tailored toward students to gather content
  • Collaborate with photographers, videographers and design teams to maintain our College’s visual brand and tell impactful Science stories
  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services ( USCIS ). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services ( OIS ), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

  • Communicate concerns or conflicts to your supervisor in a timely manner
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated self-motivation in project management and the ability to keep to schedules and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to learn and use additional software, which might include project management and design applications.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications
  • Interest in learning about the College of Science and representing the College to the public and the OSU community.
  • Demonstrated positive and proactive attitude.
  • Able to lift/carry 20 lbs.
  • Demonstrated commitment to enhancing equity, diversity and social justice.
  • It is not necessary for the candidate to be a STEM major to be successful in this position, but a demonstrated interest in science is preferred.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule

The student employee may be required to work up to an approximate 24 hours per week.
