Job Description The

Senior UI/UX Designer

will lead the design and enhancement of the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) eligibility systems. This role requires a deep commitment to accessibility, usability, and responsive design to ensure effective delivery of services to Texas residents. The designer will be responsible for conducting user research, developing wireframes and prototypes, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and applying modern design principles to complex, rule-based, data-intensive applications.



Responsibilities: • Lead user research initiatives and journey mapping to identify user needs and optimize experiences • Develop wireframes, prototypes, and visual hierarchies that align with accessibility guidelines and branding standards • Apply UX principles (hierarchy, contrast, alignment) to design responsive and accessible interfaces for web and mobile platforms • Collaborate with Code for America and internal stakeholders to apply industry best practices in UI/UX design • Conduct discovery workshops, stakeholder feedback sessions, and sprint planning to align designs with business objectives • Employ design tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, and Hotjar for design, testing, and validation • Design for AI/ML interfaces with a focus on explainable AI (XAI) and human-AI interaction principles • Create clear data visualizations to present complex data and AI insights • Advocate for user-centered design principles and inclusive accessibility practices (WCAG compliance) • Prepare design documentation and communicate solutions effectively to technical and non-technical audiences • Support multiple concurrent design streams and projects, balancing competing priorities



Requirements

Minimum Qualifications: • 11+ years of hands-on experience designing enterprise user interfaces and experiences, including wireframes and prototypes using Figma, Adobe XD, and Sketch • 11+ years of experience collaborating with technical and non-technical teams to deliver accessible, branded design solutions • 10+ years of experience applying UX design principles to responsive web and mobile design • 10+ years of experience creating wireframes and prototypes that support Agile development cycles



Preferred Qualifications: • 5+ years of experience designing graphical diagrams and visual narratives to illustrate timelines, workflows, and system architecture • 3+ years of experience facilitating design workshops and stakeholder feedback sessions • 3+ years of experience with Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, HCI, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience) • 3+ years of experience managing multiple concurrent design efforts across large systems • Experience with complex system design in government, healthcare, or financial domains • Experience with eligibility determination or rule-based, data-intensive applications



Additional Requirements: •

Must be local to the Austin, TX area ; relocation candidates will not be considered • Hybrid schedule: 3 days onsite (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday) and

2 days remote (Wednesday, Friday) • Candidate may be required to work evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed •

Work Location and Schedule: • Location: 4601 W Guadalupe Street, Austin, TX 78751 • Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Central, excluding Texas state holidays • Work Arrangement: Hybrid (3 days onsite, 2 days remote); may be adjusted at HHSC's discretion
