At the Lee County Library System, we do more than lend books — we build community. With 13 active branches, innovative resources, and impactful programs, we empower people of all ages to explore, learn, and connect.

As a Librarian, you’ll be a key member of the public services team, contributing to programs, services, and community outreach across all age groups. You’ll collaborate with colleagues, engage with patrons, and help shape a positive library experience every day.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Planning and delivering creative and engaging programs for children, teens, adults, and families—both inside the library and at community outreach events
  • Providing excellent customer service with a friendly, professional, and helpful attitude
  • Assisting patrons with locating materials, using computers, accessing digital resources, and navigating library services
  • Offering readers’ advisory and research support tailored to a diverse range of patrons
  • Promoting the library through partnerships with schools, community groups, and local organizations
  • Supporting collection development through material selection, weeding, and displays
  • Supervising volunteers and possibly paraprofessional staff
  • Taking initiative to identify and meet community needs through tailored programs and services
  • Staying informed about new and emerging technologies—and helping others learn to use them
  • Serving as person-in-charge during assigned shifts and assisting with day-to-day branch operations
  • Adapting to changes in schedule, location, and work priorities as needed

To succeed in this role, you’ll need strong communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively with a team, and a commitment to providing inclusive service to a diverse community. You should be comfortable engaging with patrons of all ages, including children, teens, and those who speak languages other than English. Initiative, creativity, and flexibility are key—along with a willingness to grow and learn.

Spanish language skills are a plus.

You must have a mix of education and work experience. This means:

One of the following:

  • A Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science (or a closely related field) from an accredited graduate program
  • A Bachelor’s Degree and current enrollment in an accredited graduate library school program, with graduation expected within six (6) months of hire
  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to a Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science

Preferred:

  • At least one year of experience working in a library or a closely related field
  • A valid driver’s license with a good driving record

Work Schedule

  • Full-time, 80 hours bi-weekly
  • Schedule includes variable hours with evenings, Saturdays, and some Sundays
  • Employees may be temporarily or permanently reassigned to another library location based on system needs
