Job Description
This full-time position is based at the Main Branch of the Onslow County Public Library in Jacksonville.
Performs skilled administrative support work in the public service areas of the library, enhancing the patron experience. Your primary responsibilities will include assisting visitors with inquiries, managing library materials, promoting programs and services, and ensuring efficient packing and shipping of materials through the NC Cardinal Consortium. Related work will be assigned as needed. Work is performed under the general direction of the Librarian.
Some weekend and evening work is required.

Some knowledge of library operations; general knowledge of office terminology, procedures and equipment; ability to perform library tasks and to adhere to prescribed routines; ability to perform routine clerical tasks; ability to operate standard office and computer equipment; ability to operate standard office productivity software such as Microsoft Office, ability to operate various mobile devices such as e-readers, tablets, and smart phones; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and customers.
Education, Experience, and Special Requirements
High school diploma or GED and moderate experience in customer service, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements:
Valid drivers license.

North Carolina Local Governmental Employees' Retirement System

The County contributes 1% of employees' gross salary into the 401(k) account regardless of the employee's deferral amount. In addition, the County matches employee deferrals up to an additional 4%.
Vacation Leave
Regular full-time employees earn 13.5 days of vacation leave per year. With each 5-year increment of employment, vacation accrual increases.
Sick Leave
Regular full-time employees earn 12 days of sick leave per year.
Paid Holidays
County employees receive paid holidays annually. The Board of County Commissioners approves and may adjust the schedule as deemed necessary.
Teladoc Mental Health Services
The County provides Teladoc Mental Health Services to help employees and their families with personal, family and job-related problems such as depression, and substance abuse concerns.
Supplemental Benefits
County employees are also offered a variety of supplemental benefits such as Life Insurance, Flexible Spending Accounts, 457b Deferred Compensation Plan, and MetLife Supplemental Plans.

- Assist with circulation team management and scheduling.
- Check in and check out library materials accurately; register new patrons and maintain their profiles.
- Sort, shelve, and organize library collections; inspect the condition of books before and after check-out.
- Collects money; prepares cash report; reconciles cash drawer; issues receipts.
- Assist patrons with computer access, software applications, and internet navigation; provide guidance on using library technology and digital resources.
- Help support library programs and events for all age groups.
- Prepare materials for shipping within the NC Cardinal Consortium by following established packing guidelines.
- Performs assigned functions as a Disaster Ready Team (DRT) member, if appointed or volunteers.
- Other duties as assigned.
