RF Sales Engineer
Position Summary
We are seeking a Sales Engineer (SSE) to support our sales team by providing technical expertise throughout the sales cycle. This role requires a combination of strong technical knowledge, communication skills, and customer-facing experience. The SSE will collaborate with sales representatives, project managers, service technicians, and installation teams to design and deliver innovative communication solutions tailored to customer needs.
This is a client-facing position with regular onsite work at customer locations. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, detail-oriented, a strong team player, and able to communicate technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging product demonstrations and technical presentations to stakeholders, from executives to operational decision-makers.
- Provide system design consultation, including quoting, developing bills of materials, compliance vetting, and best-practice architecture recommendations.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and partners through technical thought leadership and strategic engagement.
- Collaborate with sales teams to align technical solutions with customer requirements and contribute to commercial roadmaps.
- Develop customized technical proposals and supporting documentation that clearly communicate solution benefits.
- Conduct product demonstrations and training for customers as needed.
- Identify customer requirements not currently supported and document them for future solution development.
- Participate in planning and strategy meetings to represent sales engineering interests.
- Define and implement best practices in pre-sales technical support.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience with RF system design and solutions, including trunked, conventional, and analog radio systems.
- Familiarity with leading manufacturers’ solutions (e.g., L3Harris, Tait, Kenwood, EF Johnson, Motorola).
- Strong knowledge of microwave and backhaul principles.
- Working knowledge of IP networking and information assurance requirements as they relate to RF/Land Mobile Radio systems.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks with strong attention to detail.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Visio).
- Willingness to travel up to 35% domestically.
- Must hold a valid driver’s license and pass a background check/drug test.
Education & Preferred Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline (or equivalent field experience).
- Coursework or background in RF systems, computer networking, and circuit analysis.
- Certifications such as CCNP or CISSP are considered a plus.
Physical Demands
- Ability to install, configure, and handle RF system components according to specifications.
- May require standing, bending, crawling, or kneeling during equipment setup.
- Must occasionally lift or move up to 30 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, and depth perception.
- Approximately 35% travel (air and car), including overnight stays at customer sites.
- Combination of office, client-site, and field-based work.
