The Director of Development and Communications will design and implement a comprehensive development and communication program to enhance the mission and vision established by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Board of Directors.

In collaboration with the Chief Executive Officer, this position will be responsible to design and implement a structured and timely fundraising program to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward potential donors to include individuals, companies, foundations, and other non-billable sources.

This position will also lead, coordinate, and implement all communication mediums for the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Create and manage all social media platforms to promote LittleStar

Create a posting schedule that involves the creation of content and consistent deliverables

Work with leadership to create annual report/s that help LittleStar be transparent and tell our story of impact to the community

Establish and monitor a donor database

Implement and manage strategies for identifying, researching, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major donors and prospects including foundations, corporations, and family endowments

Create and oversee donor recognition systems

Manage reporting and tracking required for internal planning and management needs, as well as external compliance requirements

Develop sound program of donor stewardship that cultivates, informs, and thanks donors

Create collateral and direct mail related to stewardship (annual reports, etc.), and other special fundraising efforts.

Identify, research, and pursue grant opportunities

Develop and track annual development budget and goals

Plan, coordinate, and execute fundraising events that engage the community members and raise funds for the LittleStar mission. This includes coordinating event committees comprised of volunteers who have a passion for the mission

Monitor and report regularly on the progress of the development program

Create annual giving campaigns through mail, email, and social media to raise awareness and mission related funds for LittleStar

Collaborate with CEO to ensure all fundraising activities and agreements are in compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations

Performs other duties as assigned by CEO and/or other Senior Leadership.

Educational Qualifications and Skills:

Bachelor’s Degree required

Demonstrated and verifiable record of a minimum of 5 years of success in a position related to sales or successful development activities. Experience within a nonprofit organization is preferred

A combination of education, training, and experience may be substituted when competency in the role is demonstrated

Experience in expanding and cultivating donor relationships is required

Experience in serving in a leadership role for successful campaigns is required

Ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships is required

Ability to work independently without close oversight, but also act as a team player who will productively engage with others at varying levels of seniority within and outside of LittleStar

Strong organizational skills, exceptional attention to details, and the ability to take initiative and manage multiple tasks and projects at a time

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory duties

Work Environment

Position operates in a professional office environment.

This role routinely uses standard office and audiovisual equipment.

This position may be eligible for telecommuting per the telecommuting policy depending on organizational needs and at supervisor’s discretion.

Travel

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, with core office hours being 8:30 - 4:30 p.m., with availability for unexpected emergencies when needed.

This position may have some evening and weekend hours due to the nature of the position with communication and potential fundraising activities.

This position requires regular travel.

Travel could be outside the local area and overnight, both within and outside the state of Indiana, which may include weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Conditions of Employment:

Must pass a pre-employment background check

Must wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), as provided by LittleStar, where physical distance cannot be attained, when needed

Possess and maintain valid driver’s license and possess the ability to travel
