Director, Policy Communications

Basic Function of the Position:
Support CTA's policy advocacy and public affairs efforts by developing strategies and managing tactics including CTA rapid response capabilities, stakeholder influence, media engagement and leveraging of partnerships to benefit CTA, member priorities and the consumer technology industry.
Critical Duties and Responsibilities: Collaborate with the Government Affairs Department to develop and execute strategies and tactics supporting policy advocacy, including programs and campaigns, stakeholder engagement and grass-roots efforts. Develop and execute traditional and digital media strategies and tactics that drive earned media opportunities and public engagement; cultivate and maintain media relationships to advance awareness of CTA's public policy issues; act as policy media contact. Lead cross-departmental teams and manage multi-faceted public policy projects, national and international, and campaigns supporting various CTA policy priority issues. Support the Communications Department's rapid response capabilities including providing strategic counsel, developing messaging, engaging key media and securing and tracking earned media coverage for CTA issues. Recruit and engage policy focused media to participate in CES and key CES policy related programs including, the Innovation Policy Summit and the Leaders In Technology program. Support overall CES media recruitment and engagement program as needed, leading up to and during CES. Draft, gain approval of, and supervise distribution of monthly Beltway Bytes newsletter amplifying Government Affairs activity. Seek and embrace technical and professional educational opportunities by attending educational workshops, reviewing publications, identifying best practices, etc. Other duties as required by business needs. Work Experience:
10+ year progressive experience working in communications or public relations with a focus on public affairs and policy-related programs and campaigns Experience working on Capitol Hill, with members' congressional staff or within the legislative/regulatory space At least two years in a management environment, including management of high-priority projects and overseeing a program budget Strong understanding of communications and policy strategies and tactics Experience developing communications strategy Private-sector experience involving client management preferred Education/Training:
Bachelor's or advanced degree in marketing, communications, political science, political management or related field strongly preferred or commensurate experience Skills/Capabilities/Technical:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites Proficiency in various online applications and public engagement tools Experienced in management and budgeting Excellent writer and comfortable public speaker Budget and Staff:
Budget responsibility Management of one full-time staff Additional Information:
Travel to Las Vegas for CES required, additional travel as necessary
