Job Summary
This position is responsible for the day-to-day marketing, communications and media relations tasks for GSEOK, promoting Girl Scouts via news releases, pitching of feature stories, maintaining Council website and also creating content for the site. The person in this role is also responsible for creating Council publications and content for Council website and as such, strong writing, graphic design, project management, and organizational skills are paramount to success in this role.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design, develop and produce virtual and hard-copy collateral submitted by internal departments through the Communications Portal while managing/meeting all deadlines.
- Understand and utilize graphic design software, specifically Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and Lightroom) and Canva.
- Develop and implement strategies to promote the Girl Scout brand in association with staff, council leadership, and volunteers.
- Effectively interact with print vendors to manage deadlines and projects
- Oversees Council publications, both printed and electronic, including project management, graphic design, web hosting, copy writing, etc.
- Writes copy for Council website and other publications/projects.
- Responsible for taking still photographs and video of council activities as needed.
- Generate media pitches, research, write and oversee timely distribution and follow-up of information promoting GSEOK-related activities, personnel and services to news outlets across the Councils 30 county service area. Contacts appropriate members of the media to pitch agency coverage and/or secure spots in broadcast and print when possible. Notifies supervisor and other appropriate leaders and staff of media interest or scheduled coverage. Builds and maintains working relationships with media outlets/partners, key personnel and community partners to achieve a positive image for the organization.
- Monitors media activity to stay informed about public perception of the organization and works with needed staff to respond to inaccurate or negative coverage. Maintains media log for the Councils board of directors.
- Coordinates media interviews and scheduling of council personnel, volunteers, girls and GSEOK spaces/facilities. Provides training to those working with the media so they are prepared with needed information and ensuring their presentation is appropriate to the situation.
Other:
- This position does not supervise others, but works as part of a collaborative team. Work is performed exclusively within a climate controlled, non-smoking environment. There are occasions in which the ability to lift and move a minimum of 25 pounds will be necessary. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required in order to meet deadlines. Both reliability and punctuality are fully expected of this position. Other duties may be assigned and/or required.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree and 1-3 years of relevant knowledge and experience in advertising, communications, graphic design, journalism, marketing and/or public relations.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Strong copywriting and editing skills.
- Demonstrated understanding and proficiency in graphic design programs; Adobe Creative Suite and Canva.
- Proficiency in video editing software (Premiere Pro or Canva)
- Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) knowledge or experience in WordPress or similar software
Preferred Qualifications:
- Media relations experience
- Photography and videography skills
- SalesForce Marketing Cloud experience
- Experience managing multiple deadlines and working with clients/internal stakeholders to ensure project deadlines are met.
- Experience in project management software
Physical and Schedule Requirements:
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends.
