Description
The Director of Visual Merchandising will have leadership in conceptualizing, designing and standardizing retail design solutions that support the overall brand strategy and vision. This person will act as expert design lead and understanding of architecture as it relates to visual merchandising, be a brand guardian and provide overall support to the regions ensuring all Clinique retail formats meet brand standards and aesthetics.
This role will report to the VP of Visual Merchandising and Store Design and collaborate across various cross functional teams to bring new innovative design solutions and standards for Global VM deployment.
The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge in Visual Merchandising and a balanced understanding of Store Design to provide cohesive retail solutions that work seamlessly in a retail environment.
As a member of the Global Merchandising team, the overall goal is to create designs and guidelines that ensure a consistent and cohesive look for Clinique in all retail environments, Department stores, Free standing stores, Specialty Multi and Pharma.
The ideal candidate will be able to assess creative requests and formulate initial design proposals with little direction. As a designer you must be able to visualize your ideas in 2D drawings and 3D Rhino for ease of presentation and approvals. Must be able to communicate with knowledge and expertise all details regarding merchandising principles, VM structures and materials.
Responsibilities

Owns and drives high profile global in-store initiatives, partnering with Creative Ops, 2D creative, Marketing, packaging and SD to realize the design and strategic vision.

Design and concept global merchandising design guidelines that are best in class, consumer centric, effective and innovative.

Design and develop VM solutions for Global Flagship stores in close collaboration with Store Design partners, regional stakeholders and RDDC teams. Follow thru with execution details and material review.

Based on creative requests/briefs, develop designs that are clear, visually impactful, easy to navigate and consistent with brand goals.

Develop cross selling merchandising solutions that provide storytelling, clear communication, and bold graphics.

Develop and maintain merchandising diagrams for Global guidance on best practices, global initiatives and merchandising seasonal priorities for all retail channels.

Drive design concept direction for in store needs, new product launches, high traffic campaign programs and eventing as needed in 3D and 2D.

Together with 2D graphics team, create and maintain VM guidelines for regions to adapt to their local retailer/FSS/Specialty multi or other.

Be a leader and expert on behalf of the retail team to advise 2D graphic designers and regions on best solutions for a cohesive and brand agnostic look. Ensure there is large thinking of overall retail environment and context when creating graphics for 1 product or campaign.

Form productive and supportive relationships with Regional Visual Merchandising and Store Design teams to ensure brand guidelines are executed consistently.

Ensure clear communication, transfer of information and alignment of regional teams to maintain and build collaborative and efficient process with RDDC teams.

Review regional adaptation of Global guidance to ensure the overall campaign concept and non-negotiables are followed thru. Offer design solutions to regional adaptations as needed.

Attend meetings with senior management, to present projects, answer questions and receive feedback.

Work with key partners (i.e., Education, Packaging, Product & Consumer Marketing teams) to ensure the designs achieve the best results for each product display and retailer needs.

Maintain a well-organized database of graphics, guidelines and VM executions (on shared server) for each project/initiative global starts and completes.

Initiate and drive prototype creation to evaluate VM proposals, product fit review and design buy in. Partner with Corporate Procurement to leverage Global resources for fixture rollout, sustainable materials solutions and cost-effective displays.

Cultivates relationships with multiple vendors & RDDC with varying capabilities, maintaining an emphasis on quality production, adherence to brand standards, and best practices.

Initiate specific requests on behalf of the regions, in conjunction with VP and with Global brand approval.

Motivate and inspire others to maximize job performance and get buy in on projects.

Development and presentation of concepts to all levels of management.

Maintain awareness of current trends in visual arts and merchandising, travel as necessary and complete in store visits to observe counters in action.
Qualifications
-
8+ years of visual merchandising, retail design or graphic design experience. Equivalent experience considered.

Bachelor's degree in architecture, Interior Design, Industrial Design or Store Design and Visual Merchandising required.

Prior beauty experience is required

Experience with visual merchandising design, including tester displays and open sell

Experience working in a fast-paced, high pressure, creative environment.

Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator), Rhino, Sketchup, Keyshot.

Figma and AI knowledge welcomed but not required.

Demonstrated ability to multi-task with agility. Effective time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines.

Pay Range:
The anticipated base salary range for this position is $120,550.00 to $208,200.00 . Exact salary depends on several factors such as experience, skills, education, and budget. Salary range may vary based on geographic location.
