Job Summary
The Music Librarian Assistant supports the smooth operation of the Missouri Western State University choral program by organizing, maintaining, and preparing music for all ensembles, as well as providing light administrative assistance.
Essential Duties Music Library Organization & Maintenance - Catalog and file choral scores, maintain inventory, repair or replace damaged items, and assists in making sure music sets are complete. Concert & Rehearsal Preparation - Assemble and label music folders, mark cuts or measure numbers as directed, and prepare materials for distribution to ensemble members. Distribution & Collection - Maintain sign-out records, track issued music, and follow up on overdue or missing scores. Collect and check music after concerts. Light Administrative Support - Photocopy, scan, and file choral program documents; update rehearsal schedules and contact lists; assist with signage and supply monitoring; help with basic concert front-of-house needs (ushering, distributing programs). Communication & Coordination - Provide regular progress updates to the Director of Choral Activities and flag any missing, incomplete, or damaged music Required Qualifications
MWSU Student Degree Seeking At least an overall 2.0 GPA Enrolled at least part-time Reliability and ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to follow instructions and maintain accurate records. Willingness to handle printed and digital music materials with care. Good communication skills and a professional demeanor in working with faculty, staff, and students. Ability to lift and transport boxes or stacks of music (up to 25 lbs) Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must possess excellent customer service skills Be able to interact and communicate effectively with staff Ability to shelve and retrieve library music Basic computer skills, including word processing and spreadsheets Be detail-oriented This position ensures that choral scores are ready for rehearsal and performance, records are accurate, and logistical details are handled efficiently, allowing the Director of Choral Activities to focus on artistic and instructional responsibilities.
Physical Demands Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
