WGN-TV is looking for a Graphic Artist/Designer to produce graphics for the WGN-TV News. WGN-TV, Chicago’s Very Own, is a division of Nexstar Media Group and the Creative Services group which provides in-house creative and marketing needs for WGN-TV and our family of digital products. We are offering a full-time opportunity to an enthusiastic, motivated and ambitious Graphic Artist/Designer to be an integral part of the Creative Services team.
The right candidate will have a strong interest in news as well as the ability to create interesting, informative graphics. Candidate must be able to excel under tight deadlines and be willing to work weekends and holidays. The ideal candidate will be required to meet daily deadlines and work on long-term and project-driven goals, individually and in a team environment. We should be able to interact well with production team, news producers, and managers to produce graphics at their request. The Graphic Artist will work on projects for a wide array of mediums, including digital, broadcast, social media and print. An ideal candidate will have proven experience working on multiple projects and work collaboratively and independently with other departments in a fast-paced television or streaming environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop designs and graphics for: on-air products, digital and streaming products, digital display, streaming video, online and mobile applications, and social media.
Work closely with Art Director and Creative team management on the image and brand of station and develop innovative designs to reach viewers and client initiatives across multiple platforms.
Provide graphics during some news shifts for WGN newscasts. The shifts may be early morning (3am-11:30a or 5a-2:30p) and evening shift (2pm-10:30pm) or like times of the day.
Work with WGN News Producers, Creative Services Producers, Production teams, and other departments to develop infographics and news graphics for stations newscasts, locally created content, and WGN+ and digital streams.
Foster a collaborative and creative team environment, working with team members and News Producers to push design boundaries and achieve creative excellence while telling compelling news stories and maintaining a consistency of brand identity across all platforms and channels.
Collaborate on assigned projects to skillfully design and develop graphics that support promotions, campaigns, and strategic executions, ensuring alignment with brand standards and communication goals.
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
Requires an undergraduate degree in graphic arts or equivalent experience.
Must be a hands-on graphic artist or motion graphics designer/animator with a portfolio/reel that reflects your skills.
Must be able to create digital designs and animation; evaluate graphic talent and provide leadership to graphic and motion artists.
Must be highly skilled inAdobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and After Effects, with strong experience inPhotoshop and Illustratorand working knowledge ofAfter Effects; proficiency inCinema 4Dor similar3D design softwareis also required.
Ideally be knowledgeable with Ross Xpression and Chyron Prime.
Must also have a keen sense of current standards in digital video, digital display, television, social media, and print design.
Requires 1-3 years’ experience with either: creating digital animations and designs, a television station or broadcast network, and/or Post-Production facility.
Flexibility is required as candidates will be required to work weekend and holiday shifts.
SALARY RANGE: $60,000 - $89,000 Annualized - commensurate with applicant's experience and skill level
