General Summary:

The Dispatcher II position is an entry level, support position for the University Police Department. Under supervision, the Dispatcher II performs specialized support duties in the Police Communication Center, including operating CAD systems, dispatching emergency and non-emergency calls, and communicating with law enforcement and emergency services. The role requires judgment, discretion, and effective communication skills.

Examples Of Duties:

  • Dispatches police, fire, and medical assistance, prioritizing calls and documenting actions.
  • Operates radio and communication systems, transmitting messages to units and external agencies.
  • Maintains records of incidents, messages, and contacts, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Assists in emergency notifications and information dissemination to law enforcement agencies and the public.
  • Retrieves and inputs data into various police databases, ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Provides training and guidance to department personnel on communication systems.
  • Maintains knowledge of campus layout and security systems to assist investigations and monitor emergencies.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to obtain APCO certification and fingerprint clearance.
  • Work schedule includes nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Knowledge of telephone procedures, radio operations, and relevant laws.
  • Strong communication skills, ability to maintain composure under stress, and exercise sound judgment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Experience in law enforcement or security dispatching.
  • Bilingual in Spanish or Vietnamese.
  • Current APCO Basic Dispatch certificate.
