Job Description
Summary
Consultants are responsible for providing one-on-one or group consulting in a supportive environment to students in all disciplines, to engage and empower them to become more competent academic and professional writers.
Essential Functions
- Provide one-on-one or group consulting to students in a supportive environment, aiming to enhance their academic and professional writing skills.
- Teaching in a one-on-one setting is integral, but there is no requirement for teaching beyond the duties of the Writing Center.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Education and Experience/Training
- Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university (English degrees preferred).
- Demonstrated experience in writing consultation within a tutorial or instructional setting.
- Experience working with community college students.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Working knowledge of writing concepts, practices, and procedures, with the ability to apply them to varied situations.
- Effective communication of concepts to others.
- Ability to explain study strategies to ensure academic success.
- Comfortable working with people from diverse backgrounds.

- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions
The work is performed in a normal office environment, adequately lit, heated, and ventilated. Tasks include sitting, repetitive motions, walking, standing, bending, and carrying items. Travel may be required for meetings and conferences.

Compensation
This is a part-time, non-bargaining position with a set rate of $20.91/hour.
