POSITION TITLE: Marketing & Community Engagement Manager
REPORTS TO: Senior Director of Development Operations & Advancement
CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

SCHEDULE: M - F
ANNUAL SALARY: $55,000

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Marketing & Community Engagement Manager is responsible for leading the marketing and communications strategies of Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland Metro (BGCP), ensuring the organization’s brand, storytelling, and stakeholder engagement effectively advance mission and fundraising goals. This role oversees all aspects of external communications, digital media, and brand management as the primary responsibility.

This position also oversees and coordinates all aspects of volunteer management, cultivating a robust and rewarding volunteer program that strengthens Club operations, enhances special events, and deepens community engagement. This position requires creativity, project management, and relationship-building to successfully strengthen BGCP’s visibility, reputation, and community impact.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Marketing & Communications

  • Lead the execution of BGCP’s organizational communication plan aligned with the annual and long-range strategic plan.
  • Manage brand identity, graphic design, and content across all platforms (website, social media, print, and digital).
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive content calendar that highlights Club programs, member stories, fundraising events, and organizational milestones.
  • Create, produce, and coordinate marketing and communication materials including annual reports, presentations, promotional collateral, stakeholder reports, and media content.
  • Manage BGCP’s social media platforms and website to enhance engagement, storytelling, and digital presence.
  • Support fundraising and development efforts through targeted campaigns, creative storytelling, and event promotion.
  • Support the Development Team with segmented communications to key stakeholders and other stewardship efforts.
  • Cultivate and maintain media relationships, maximize public relations opportunities, and manage press outreach.
  • Execute internal communication strategies to keep staff, leadership, board members, and other constituents informed and engaged.
  • Manage data-driven communication analytics; develop metrics to measure brand performance and alignment with annual goals.
  • Conduct research and provide design/content support for development team objectives.

Volunteer Management

  • Implement volunteer recruitment, onboarding, training, and compliance processes.
  • Identify volunteer needs across programs and recruit individuals with skills to support Club operations.
  • Build and sustain partnerships with community organizations, schools, and businesses to grow the volunteer pipeline.
  • Conduct orientations, ensure compliance with background checks, and provide training to Club staff on volunteer engagement practices.
  • Coordinate recognition and appreciation activities to build strong, positive relationships with volunteers to foster a welcoming, connected, and mission-driven experience that enhances retention.
  • Maintain accurate volunteer and alumni records; track in-kind donations and volunteer hours.
  • Collaborate with Club and Development staff to integrate volunteers into special events, fundraising activities, and community programs.
  • Evaluate volunteer programs regularly and refine recruitment, selection, and training processes.
  • Lead volunteer coordination for grant-funded initiatives and reporting requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, nonprofit management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3–5 years of professional experience in marketing/communications; nonprofit experience strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with design and content tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar).
  • Proficiency with marketing tools (e.g. Mailchimp, Constant Contact, etc.)
  • Demonstrated skills in social media management, storytelling, and content creation.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to balance multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills.
  • Experience recruiting, training, and engaging volunteers.
  • Commitment to BGCP’s mission and to working with diverse youth, staff, and community stakeholders.

Preferred:

  • Experience in donor communications and stewardship campaigns.
  • Background in event coordination, fundraising, or community engagement.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce is a plus
  • Familiarity with Boys & Girls Clubs of America or youth-serving organizations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & EXPECTATIONS

  • Hybrid work model with in-person presence in the admin office, Club sites, events, and community functions as required.
  • Occasional evening and weekend responsibilities for events, volunteer activities, and development initiatives.
  • Local travel required to support Clubs, community events, and volunteer partnerships.
