JOB DESCRIPTION: Lead Cook (Creative Culinary Coordinator)

Freedom House Ministries is excited to offer a position to someone who loves to make people smile through the preparation and presentation of a delicious, nutritious meal.

We are a small nonprofit whose mission is to provide food and shelter for families experiencing homelessness. Each day we provide three meals and snacks to approximately 60 residents, prepared from bulk orders, donations, and meals served by volunteer groups.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Plan and prepare nutritious, kid-friendly, and culturally relevant weekly meals for ~60 residents, adaptable to food sensitivities.
• Work collaboratively and communicate kindly with residents, families, staff, and volunteers in a shelter environment.
• Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, pantry, coolers, and dining area.
• Hold (or be willing to obtain) ServSafe certification and ensure compliance with food safety standards.
• Coordinate and oversee daily meal service, including meals served by volunteers.
• Develop a monthly meal rotation that is sustainable and replicable.
• Creatively adapt recipes to incorporate donated food.
• Maintain accurate inventory of food, donations, and supplies.
• Manage the meal calendar and coordinate monthly food orders.
• Coordinate with shelter staff to plan and execute all food-related aspects of any special events

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Degree/certification in Culinary Arts with 3+ years of kitchen experience or 5+ years of equivalent kitchen experience.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and ability to learn new programs.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Ability to maintain clear personal and professional boundaries.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to walk for your entire shift (5-12 hours per day) with intermittent occasional standing, bending, squatting, or climbing.
• Remain alert and on duty throughout shifts.
• Lift over 50 pounds when necessary.
