New England Homes for the Deaf, founded in 1901, is a life plan community that offers a continuum of care to Deaf, Deafblind, and hard of hearing seniors, including independent living, rest home, skilled nursing, Deaf senior centers, short-term rehabilitation, respite care, and hospice services. Responsibilities
- Provide speech and language therapy evaluation, treatment, teaching, and consultation to patients.
- Conduct therapy sessions to improve speech and language skills.
- Analyze evaluation results and design personalized therapy programs.
- Implement individualized care plans.
- Evaluate and report patient progress to the treatment team, caregivers, and supervisor.
- Engage in continuous professional development.
- Perform clinical evaluations adhering to standards of practice.
- Set realistic, objective goals in care plans.
- Design and execute treatment programs considering patient needs.
- Educate patients and caregivers on therapeutic techniques.
- Maintain accurate documentation per guidelines.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
- Complete mandatory educational and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with Physical and Occupational Therapists for coordinated care.
- Communicate effectively with team members and external providers.
- Maintain up-to-date patient records.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Therapy Director.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of therapy principles and procedures relevant to the patient population.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks.
- Provide clear feedback to patients and caregivers.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and FERPA.
- Proficient in Microsoft 365 and electronic health records.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s, master’s, or doctorate degree in speech & language pathology from an accredited program.
- Valid professional license as a Speech-Language Pathologist in Massachusetts.
- Respectful and compassionate attitude toward residents and staff.
- Pleasant personality with the ability to remain calm in emergencies.
- Willingness to learn ASL.
- Participation in on-site ASL and Deaf Culture classes.
