Overview

Fox TV Stations owns and operates 29 full power broadcast television stations in the U.S. These include stations located in 14 of the top 15 largest designated market areas, or DMAs, and duopolies in 11 DMAs, including the three largest DMAs (New York, Los Angeles and Chicago). Of these stations, 18 are affiliated with the FOX Network. In addition to distributing sports, entertainment and syndicated content, our television stations collectively produce approximately 1,200 hours of local news every week. These stations leverage viewer, distributor and advertiser demand for the FOX Network’s national content.

Job Description

JOB TITLE: Assignment Editor

FOX 6 News is hiring a key player to fill the vital role of Assignment Editor in our busy newsroom. You’ll be the glue that holds the operation together juggling emails, phones, social media and police scanners. You’ll coordinate and direct news crews ensuring they are covering the most important stories in our community for both digital and broadcast. You are the communication expert who can deliver information accurately and quickly to producers, reporters, photographers and news managers. Responsibilities

  • Guide news coverage on digital and broadcast platforms during your assigned shift.
  • Understand how to create and construct compelling and impactful news content.
  • Handle ENG and news crew deployment and coordinate live crew assignments.
  • Use social media, the internet and other emerging technologies to generate news stories and contacts.
  • Curate content for web and assign resources for a digital platform.
  • Assist the news producers with story research.
  • Monitor police and fire scanners and email for potential news stories.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must have a Journalism or communication degree or related experience.
  • Previous assignment desk, associate producer or news internship experience preferred but not required.
  • Excellent news judgment and understanding of how to use current news gathering tools for both broadcast and digital platforms.
  • Must be organized and able to prioritize assignments to maximize staff output.
  • Must be able to multi-task and think logistically.
  • Must work well under pressure and stay calm in breaking news situations.
  • Experience with newsroom software such as iNews, Slack, and video editing is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, writing skills and commitment to the highest standards of journalism is required.
  • Position will include weekends and an occasional holiday shift.

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $55,000.00-58,500.00 annually. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
