JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Assignment Editor
FOX 6 News is seeking an Assignment Editor to coordinate news coverage during our busy newsroom shifts. You will manage emails, phones, social media, and police scanners, directing news crews to cover key stories for digital and broadcast platforms. Your role involves delivering accurate, timely information to producers, reporters, photographers, and news managers. RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Guide news coverage on digital and broadcast platforms during your shift.
- Create compelling news content and handle ENG and news crew deployment.
- Coordinate live crew assignments and utilize social media and emerging technologies to generate news stories and contacts.
- Curate content for web and assign digital resources.
- Assist news producers with story research.
- Monitor police and fire scanners and emails for potential stories.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field, or relevant experience.
- Previous experience in assignment desk, associate producer, or news internship preferred but not required.
- Excellent news judgment and familiarity with news gathering tools for broadcast and digital platforms.
- Organizational skills, ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work under pressure.
- Experience with newsroom software like iNews, Slack, and video editing is preferred.
- Strong communication and writing skills, committed to high journalistic standards.
- Availability to work weekends and holidays.

Payscale for this role ranges from $55,000 to $58,500 annually, dependent on education, skills, experience, and location. Benefits include medical/dental/vision insurance, 401(k), paid time off, and other plans as per applicable agreements.
