Job Title: Visiting Librarian

Full/Part Time: Part-time

Campus: Post

Reports To: Dean of University Libraries

Basic Function and Scope of Responsibilities: The Adjunct Reference Librarian performs a range of duties in a busy user-oriented academic library environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide ready reference and in-depth reference assistance to library patrons
  • Answer questions and provide research assistance using reference materials, including online and print resources
  • Demonstrate to library patrons how to search for information using the library’s databases and catalog
  • Provide reference assistance in various modes including in-person, telephone, live chat and instant messaging services
  • Provide library instruction
  • Provide assistance with LibGuides when needed
  • Supervision of student workers when needed
  • Explain use of library facilities, resources, equipment and services; provide information about library policies and procedures
  • Assist with collection development and other library-related tasks
  • Other duties/projects as assigned

Qualifications

Education Requirements: ALA-accredited Master’s degree in library science required

  • Two years’ post-MLS reference experience in an academic library preferred
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong online searching skills and thorough knowledge of academic databases
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Able to be flexible and work independently and cooperatively
  • Able to interact effectively and congenially with library patrons, faculty, staff and student workers

Working Conditions

Library/office environment. Weekend evenings (Saturday and Sunday) required. Other hours may also be assigned based on the needs of the library.

Salary and Equipment

Salary Rate: $32 per hour

  • Materials & Equipment: Computer, phone, printer, copier
