Overview
The Georgia State University Police Department is seeking a Police Communications Officer I to join the team at the Atlanta Campus. The department provides law enforcement, security and safety services to the university community and the immediate surrounding areas and is accredited by CALEA, IACLEA, and the State of Georgia Law Enforcement Certification Program. Georgia State University Police Department comprises 160 officers across six Atlanta metro campuses and is committed to safety, professional community‑oriented policing, and excellence.
Responsibilities
Answers emergency and non-emergency phones and radios in the police communications center and dispatches police officers via police radio as the situation dictates.
Maintains logs and forms for all calls, reports, or complaints in accordance with standard police procedures.
Maintains logs using CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch) systems and related records.
Dispatches appropriate personnel for reports or incidents and routes information to the appropriate agencies.
Greets the public and provides information about the campus.
Receives incoming telephone calls requesting general information about campus operations, closures, and department hours.
Enters and retrieves data from NCIC/GCIC and checks criminal history backgrounds for applicants and suspects.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or GED; no felony convictions. Must be able to pass a thorough background investigation and a pre-employment drug screen.
Preferred Requirements:
At least six months of dispatcher/service experience is preferred.
Knowledge of police dispatch procedures and the functions of a police department.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work under stressful situations.
Ability to work independently and perform assignments through oral and written instructions and/or specific policies and procedures.
