is seeking a
Police Communications Officer III
to join the already awesome team in keeping the Police Department at the level of excellence that it has strived to become and sustain. The Georgia State University
Police Department
provides law enforcement, security and safety services to the university community and the immediate surrounding areas, ensuring a safe environment for our students, faculty, staff and neighbors. Georgia State boasts one of the largest university police forces in the state with 160 officers across all six Atlanta metro campuses. The Department is accredited and certified by the following organizations: Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), The International Association of Campus Law Enforcement (IACLEA) and the State of Georgia Law Enforcement Certification Program.
Responsibilities
Answer incoming emergency and non-emergency phone calls.
Answer incoming telephone calls from callers seeking general information about school closures, department hours, etc., and make the appropriate referral.
Determine the nature of the call.
Radio in the police communications center.
Dispatch appropriate personnel for reports of incidents or complaints and/or route the information to appropriate agencies (EMS, Fire Department, Wrecker Service and other Police Agencies).
Maintain various logs and forms of all calls, reports, or complaints according to standard police procedures via CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch System).
Enter and receive data from NCIC/GCIC and check Criminal History backgrounds for applicants and suspects.
Follow standard policies and procedures with a high level of independence.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or GED and four years of dispatcher experience.
Successful completion of the Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC) certification.
Preferred Requirements
Community service experience preferred.
Knowledge of police dispatch procedures and functions of a police department.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work under stressful situations.
Ability to work independently and perform assignments through oral and written instructions and / or specific policies and procedures.
