Overview

The Metro Transit Police Department is seeking a dedicated Supervisor within the Police Communications unit to oversee two-way radio communication between officers, officials, and partnering police and fire agencies.
In this pivotal role, you will manage vital emergency communication systems including Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), radio networks, and criminal justice information systems (CJIS). You'll also conduct essential training to ensure swift, accurate responses during emergencies, special events, holidays, and adverse weather conditions; all while supporting a 24/7 operation.

Responsibilities
Supervise and coordinate the two-way radio communications with officials and police officers on trains, buses, in metro rail stations and in mobile police vehicles; ensure dispatch to emergency and routine calls on WMATA property; maintain radio discipline and compliance with FCC regulations.
Supervise the processing of emergency and non-emergency calls for assistance from the public, WMATA Operations Control Centers, station attendants, bus operators, and other WMATA departments; provide customer support and address inquiries within the Division; handle calls during non-business hours as required.
Oversee the training of Police Communications Technicians (PCTs) and Police Communications Specialists (PCS) to operate communications consoles, the CAD system, multi-line switchboard, PMARS, the digital video wall, and CAD-related devices; monitor and coordinate with adjacent jurisdictions as needed.
Supervise and ensure accurate querying and management of criminal and motor vehicle information using CJIS-related systems (WALES, METERS, VCIN) and related local court systems; maintain data in CAD and related systems; ensure data integrity and documentation.
Conduct CJIS audits and ensure compliance with CJIS security standards; coordinate notifications of serious WMATA incidents via ALERTs to leadership and external agencies.
Serve as subject matter expert for CAD and liaise with WMATA's radio group; assist with CAD administration, maintenance, configuration, and data file maintenance; ensure system applications run properly and provide user documentation and support.
Maintain complete and accurate records of CAD calls for service and keep manuals/documentation for CAD up to date; assist in developing the Division's Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
Provide after-hours response and support for the Communications Division as needed; travel to provide system support; work may involve lifting or other physical effort.
Qualifications
Education:
Graduation from high school or GED; an associate's degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Police Science, Business Administration or a related field is preferred.
Experience:
Minimum seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in police dispatching or a related police field with demonstrated knowledge of CAD/RMS systems, state criminal justice computer systems, and police radio equipment, to include interoperability with local jurisdictions. Three (3) years of experience in police training, management or supervisory roles over these systems will be considered.
Certification/Licensure:
Must attend training to attain and maintain certifications from Maryland and Washington, DC, which allows access to criminal justice databases (WALES and METERS). A passing score on the required tests is needed for initial certification, with bi-annual recertification to remain a valid user.
Other Requirements:
Candidate must have never been convicted of a felony or serious misdemeanor; must pass an extensive background check; may be required to work variable shifts, including during inclement weather or extended tours without notice.
Medical:
Medical examination satisfactorily completed if required; incumbent must be able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
Mission Essential Designation:
This role is designated as critical to mission essential functions and may require reporting to work during severe weather, disasters, or emergencies.
