SENIOR DISTRIBUTION DESIGNER
Seeking a detail-oriented, creative designer with 10 years’ experience drafting and developing designs for Distribution Projects.
This position is primarily responsible for:
Preparing distribution design projects for P.E. review and sealing.
Performing daily QA/QC on all field design services, validating field data, and ensuring the constructability of designs.
Collaborating with Project Managers to prepare proposals for field services.
Participating in field services kick-off meetings to align expectations and execution plans.
The position can be located at our Houston or Boerne office. It may require some overnight travel to project sites.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design
Review field notes and prepare CAD plan and profile drawings using hand sketches and/or transit shot information.
Coordinate with field personnel concerning questions or missing items.
Prepare KMZ files and download image files from TNRIS website, as required.
Prepare TXDOT permit drawings, acquire ROW maps as needed, and coordinate with engineers to ensure ROW lines are properly drawn.
Prepare plan and profile drawings using design guides, GPS coordinate information, and staking sheet information, including proposed pole height and framing information.
Perform design calculations, estimates, and statistics using industry tools and methods.
Resolve urgent field issues requiring immediate attention.
Deliver clear and actionable staking and layout documentation.
Process LiDAR data using various software platforms (e.g., Trimble Business Center, Global Mapper).
QA/QC
Maintain quality control over project work to meet standards for deliverables, including CAD work ensuring accurate scales, proper spelling, formatting, and completeness.
Proactively resolve construction staking issues early in the process.
Coordinate field-to-office data flow for timely updates and feedback.
Validate field decisions against standards and provide feedback to improve deliverables.
Review post-staking deliverables for accuracy and completeness.
Proposal Development
Collaborate with Project Managers to prepare proposals for field services.
Provide technical input and forecast hours required for field services.
Maintain thorough project documentation, including calculations, communications, design decisions, rationale, and pertinent records.
Other
Attend project meetings as necessary to coordinate design and address issues.
Share expertise and suggest process or technique improvements to enhance team effectiveness.
Develop and maintain positive professional relationships with key personnel involved in project work.
Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
Associate’s Degree in Drafting or Design, or 10 years of related experience.
Technical problem-solving skills and effective communication skills, both oral and written.
Familiarity with electric utility best practices.
Moderate to advanced knowledge of Medium to High Voltage systems; AutoCAD and PLS CADD proficiency.
Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
SKILLS:
Strong written and verbal communication skills, exceptional computer skills, especially in project management, spreadsheets, and word processing.
Excellent time management, organizational, and multi-tasking abilities.

Ability to listen, hear, see well, and perform physical activities such as sitting, standing, walking, bending, squatting, stooping, kneeling, reaching, and using hands and arms.
