Purpose of the job:

The Electronic Resources Librarian will be responsible for managing the electronic, paper and microform periodicals collections and to maintain access to the library's database collection. This librarian also provides reference services to our patrons, including bibliographic instruction, participates in collection development for selected academic areas, develops and maintains online user guides and tutorials, maintains the library web site and co-manages the Interlibrary Loan department. Collaborative and cooperative work ethic is required.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership for innovative electronic resource management and development. Establish electronic subscriptions, register, monitor and troubleshoot subscription-related access to electronic resources (periodicals and databases).

  • Manage the library's discovery platform and link resolver. With respect to the library's online periodical holdings, add/delete electronic periodicals and databases as needed.
  • In collaboration with Technical Services Librarian, maintain library's online catalog.
  • Maintain the library's A-Z Database List and OCLC-hosted EZproxy server and resolve any access issues.

  • Communicate with vendors/publishers to expedite and sustain access to electronic resources (periodicals and databases).

  • Provide research help at the reference desk and online for the UST scholarly community; this librarian will have a pro-rated share of reference desk hours.

  • Serve as the library liaison in selected academic programs. This involves meeting with faculty in selected academic departments, provide library instruction and develop online user guides and tutorials as needed.

  • Conduct library instruction classes to undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Maintain accurate web content and postings on the library web page. Examples include posting library hours, library announcements, maintaining the library staff directory and other similar web page modifications. Library uses Aquifer software in coordination with the UST Marketing department.

  • Serve as administrator of LibGuides and other Springshare products.

  • Act as co-supervisor (with the Technical Services Librarian) of all interlibrary loan activity. Responsible to manage the interlibrary loan system including the resolution of problems related to patrons or to the system itself; keep the ILL system updated with the latest technology and protocols; plan for and implement innovations to the interlibrary loan service; assist with the daily processing of loans/borrows; process interlibrary loan activity whenever there are staff absences to ensure continuous service to our academic community; train and evaluate interlibrary loan staff.

  • Provide periodical and annual database use statistics.

  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Supervisory responsibilities:

  • Hire, train, terminate and assess performance of any student assistants or part-time staff working in the Electronic Resources/periodicals department. Also responsible to supervise student assistants while at the reference desk.
  • Supervise the daily processing of interlibrary loans and borrowing.

Fiscal responsibilities: No fiscal responsibilities.

Knowledge and skills required:

ALA accredited MLS degree required.

Experience as a reference librarian: reference desk, bibliographic instruction, user guides is preferred.

Experience with using online systems and software programs. Experience working with SirsiDynix Horizon and Enterprise is preferred.

Prefer experience working with OCLC Worldshare Mangement Services for discovery services, interlibrary loan, collection and periodicals management.

Effective communication and organizational skills are required.

Experience with OCLC EZproxy is preferred.

Self-starter.

Working conditions: Full-time non-tenure track faculty position. Flexible schedule in coordination with other reference staff. Some evening hours required. Some bending, lifting, stooping required in an office environment.
