Job Summary
The Foundation Relations Specialist plays a critical role in securing institutional funding to advance Avow’s mission. This position is responsible for identifying and cultivating relationships with foundation and institutional funders, managing the full lifecycle of grant applications—from research and proposal development to reporting and stewardship—and coordinating with internal teams to align funding opportunities with programmatic goals.
Job Duties
- Conduct all foundation business in an ethical and respectful manner in adherence with the Compliance and Ethics Program.
- Manage relationships with institutional donors, ensuring timely communication and stewardship.
- Identify, research, and evaluate prospective foundation funders aligned with organizational priorities.
- Cultivate relationships with foundation contacts, including gatekeepers and decision-makers.
- Collaborate with program staff to gather information for proposals and reports. Write and submit compelling grant proposals and letters of inquiry; coordinate approvals with leadership.
- Track and meet all deadlines for grant submissions and reporting through a centralized grant calendar.
- Prepare accurate and timely grant reports that communicate outcomes and impact.
- Develop stewardship plans for funders, including recognition and ongoing updates.
- Support preparation for in-person or virtual presentations to funders.
- Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Three or more years of professional experience in a nonprofit fundraising environment.
- Two or more years of successful foundation relations experience preferred.
- Donor research abilities required, preferably foundation research, understanding of IRS 990s, Foundation Center (or similar tool), Guidestar, etc.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Florida Driver’s License. CFRE preferred.
Computer Skills: Working knowledge of Office 360 programs is essential. Donor database experience required, Raiser’s Edge/NXT preferred. Ability to navigate and manage data within multiple online submission platforms sponsored by identified prospective funders.
Language Skills: Read, write and speak English fluently. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common financial reports and legal documents. Ability to write case for support and grant report documents that conform to each funders’ prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
