Overview
Media Relations Manager role at Arnold & Porter. The Marketing Department has an immediate opening; location options include New York or Washington, DC. The Manager will increase visibility around core Industry Groups and leading practices by highlighting the firm’s partners, capabilities, and offerings at the intersection of regulatory, litigation and transactional expertise.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of eight (8) years of media relations and communications experience, preferably with a law firm, a media outlet, or a professional services organization. The person should be passionate about media relations, proactive, self-motivated, capable of working with partners and senior staff, and ready to contribute to a fast-paced team handling high-profile issues.
Responsibilities
- Develop, plan and execute communications strategies for the Media Relations team, leveraging AI-driven tools and analytics to optimize outreach.
- Obtain placements in appropriate media outlets to raise visibility of the firm, Industry Groups/practice areas, and partners.
- Develop and cultivate relationships with press contacts at relevant legal, business, policy, and technology publications (international, national, and regional).
- Build credible relationships with partners to enable proactive media opportunities.
- Prepare partners for media interviews and participate in meetings with reporters, providing substantive feedback after interviews.
- Write press releases, media pitches, pre-briefing documents, and related materials.
- Develop and deliver high-visibility competitive analysis reports.
- Collaborate with Business Development and Brand/Editorial Content teams on cross-collaboration opportunities related to industry trends and client work.
- Support internal and crisis communications strategy where needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Eight (8) years of media/PR and strategic communications experience, preferably at a law firm, media outlet, or professional services organization.
- Existing media relationships and ability to build new ones; strong news sense and understanding of how to generate impactful coverage and measure ROI, including familiarity with AI-powered analytics tools.
- Experience developing and executing communications plans; ability to work in a complex/technical area; journalism background is a plus.
- Proficiency with Internet research and PR tools (e.g., Meltwater).
- Proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office; ability to counsel attorneys and staff on media relations in key industry sectors (Life Sciences, Financial Services, Consumer/Retail, Technology/Telecom/Media, Aerospace/Defense/National Security).
- Strong relationships with media contacts in legal, business, policy and tech sectors; ability to write and pitch story ideas, client wins, thought leadership, op-eds and brand profiles.
- Interest in tracking industry trends to provide fresh content ideas for attorneys and leadership; digital and social media savvy; good judgment in interactions with attorneys and media.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple demands and meet deadlines; prior supervisory experience.

Compensation & Benefits
The anticipated base salary for this position is $125,760 to $175,000. The actual base salary offered will depend on factors including qualifications, years of experience, education, certifications, and location.
