Responsibilities
- Install and maintain the 800 MHz system and P25 subscriber mobile, portable and control station radios statewide.
- Install and maintain the P25 trunk and conventional radio equipment (transmitters, receivers, site controllers), networking equipment (site routers, service aggregation routers, Ethernet circuits, LAN switches and Local Area Networks), receive pre-amp multi-coupler systems, transmit combiners, alarm equipment and RF and AC lightning protection equipment.
- Provide technical support, diagnosis solutions, provisioning and programming assistance to radio users, vendors, contractors, etc.
- Install, diagnose, maintain, repair and properly operate the Radio Communication System Equipment statewide and assist the Kansas Department of Transportation Radio as assigned. Additionally, assist other radio technicians operating or maintaining the radio system.
- Programming, installing, troubleshooting, aligning, software/firmware installations/upgrades, repairing, and maintaining the components of the Radio System to ensure proper operation.
- Work with the Kansas Highway Patrol and Kansas Department of Transportation radios as assigned.
Qualifications and Pre-Employment
- Must be a U.S. citizen and at least 18 years of age.
- Must pass prescribed hearing and vision tests; hearing must be correctable to a level that allows normal radio and telephone conversation with field units; vision must be correctable to read computer terminals, maps and printouts quickly and accurately.
- Applicants must be free of felony convictions; must submit to and pass a thorough background investigation and fingerprint-based check.
- Ability to sit for long periods, perform repetitive motions with one or more extremities, and move in confined areas.
