Upper Merion Township, located in King of Prussia, PA, is seeking a resourceful, motivated, and organized Library Services Supervisor who will report directly to the Head of Circulation. This position is responsible for delivering exceptional public library service to patrons. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, demonstrates integrity, possesses a strong work ethic, and is comfortable leading independently or collaboratively. Position Objective: To oversee the daily operations and performance of the library's public service desks, ensuring consistent and high-quality customer service. Leads front-line staff, manages workflows, and fosters a welcoming, efficient, and inclusive environment for all patrons. Possesses leadership, management, and operational responsibilities to support effective front-end services and community engagement. Essential Job Functions: Ensures patrons receive excellent service, have access to library resources, and feel welcome. Oversees the day-to-day operations of the Public Desk and provides backup for staff as needed. Supervise and support Public Desk staff to ensure responsive, user-focused service. Evaluates staff training needs and assists in planning and delivering training programs. Assists in implementing new policies, procedures, and service improvements. Addresses patron concerns and complaints; escalates complex issues to the Head of Library Services as appropriate. Demonstrates professionalism when addressing sensitive/challenging situations with patrons and staff. Contacts patrons regarding long-overdue items and outstanding account balances. Assesses damaged and/or missing components of library items and applies charges to patron's account. Circulates, reserves, renews, distributes, and maintains all library materials. Manages patron accounts, including registration, renewals, and inquiry resolution. Provides basic technical assistance to patrons with library equipment and technology. Maintains strict adherence to patron privacy and confidentiality at all times. Responsible for shelving materials and shelf reading collection. Collects fees and clearly communicates library policies and procedures to patrons. Performs other duties as assigned to support library operations and services. Physical Characteristics: Walk, sit, bend, and reach materials with ease and comfort. Carry items weighing up to 25 lbs. Climb and balance on a 14-inch footstool. Minimum Education, Training, and Experience Required: Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent combination of education, training, and experience considered. Minimum three years of experience in a customer service-focused environment required. Demonstrated leadership and problem-solving skills; experience with accounts receivable is a plus. Collaborative team player committed to delivering exceptional customer service. Skilled in multitasking, setting priorities, and managing time efficiently in a dynamic environment. Excellent interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills. Proficient in computer applications and digital technologies relevant to library operations. Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving abilities. Maintains composure, patience, and a solution-oriented approach in fast-paced environments. Exhibits patience, empathy, and cultural sensitivity in serving diverse communities. Additional Requirements: PA Child Abuse; PA Criminal background check; and FBI fingerprint clearances or the ability to obtain them. Mandated Reporter training and six hours of continuing education every two years. Available to work evenings, weekends, and extended hours as required. Ability to perform tasks requiring visual acuity, including reading fine print. Proficient in English for reading, writing, and verbal communication. Proficiency in Core Competencies of the Library Services Department.
