Overview
Director of Communications – Travel & Tourism Industry. Seeking an experienced, strategic corporate communications leader to join our team. The Director of Communications is responsible for managing all aspects of our communications efforts, while serving as the public information officer. This is a brand ambassador role, ensuring a favorable view of the organization, and requires a hands-on approach, targeted at both visitors and local stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Lead the development and execution of comprehensive communications strategies
Lead and mentor the communications team; ensuring messaging aligns with organizational goals
Manage crisis communications plans and responses
Serve as primary media contact; oversee press relations and pitch high-value stories
Oversee content creation (newsletters, press releases, speeches, presentations, brand narratives)
Partner with marketing team and PR firms to coordinate campaigns and share insights
Support CEO and senior leadership with speaking engagements and presentation materials (extensive experience with PowerPoint is a must-have)
Collaborate on social media and influencer strategies
Maintain relationships with industry partners
Measure communications effectiveness and adjust strategies for impact
Stay informed across departments to provide timely and relevant communications support
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree or MBA preferred
15+ years in communications leadership, ideally in hospitality, nonprofits, community affairs, advocacy, or related fields
Strong business proficiency and expertise in community communications
Proven ability to build trust and relationships with stakeholders, partners, and government entities
Excellent writing, presentation, and verbal communication skills
Creative, proactive problem-solver with strong judgment and emotional intelligence
Skilled in project planning, process management, and PowerPoint
Collaborative leader who can inspire teams and align diverse groups toward shared goals
