Overview The American Chemical Society is seeking a dynamic and strategic

Marketing Manager

who will become a key member of the Marketing Team. This role supports the Membership Department’s annual priorities and plays a central part in driving ACS’s membership growth and retention. The Marketing Manager will lead the development and execution of targeted marketing strategies that align member benefits with lifecycle stages, behavioral insights, and audience segmentation. The manager will optimize outreach across digital channels and strengthen integration with Member Services to enhance the overall member experience. Working closely with the Senior Manager, Product Marketing, the incumbent will help position ACS membership as the premier global community for chemists and chemical professionals.

Location: Washington, DC. This role is based in our Washington, DC office. ACS Communications/Marketing employees work a hybrid schedule, onsite two days (Tue/Wed) per work week, as decided by functional area. The balance of the week is open to working remotely, though employees are always welcome onsite each day if they choose.

Responsibilities

Acquisition & Conversion: Develop and test top-of-funnel marketing strategies to attract key growth audiences, particularly in industry and global markets.

Onboarding: Optimize the new member experience to build early engagement and long-term loyalty.

Engagement: Curate and promote relevant benefits to increase perceived value and reduce attrition, while supporting cross-society promotional efforts.

Renewal & Win-back: Partner with Membership to streamline the renewal process and implement data-driven win-back strategies.

Additional responsibilities

Work with Membership to establish KPIs, track and analyze performance using marketing data, report on results, and make data-driven recommendations for current and future marketing campaigns.

Manage multiple campaigns at a time and ensure that deadlines are being met.

Manage and update marketing project timelines and marketing plans.

Create and update tracking codes for marketing projects.

Assist with presentations by gathering all relevant materials and resources.

Position is responsible for assisting with managing the marketing budget associated with this effort.

Other administrative marketing duties as assigned.

Compensation and Benefits A reasonable rate of compensation for this position is between 98,000 and 105,000 USD annually. ACS currently provides the following benefits for this position: paid vacation leave, paid sick leave, paid holidays, health insurance, flexible spending account or health care savings account, dental insurance, life insurance, vision insurance, retirement benefits, short- and long-term disability, and 4-week work from anywhere; each benefit is subject to the terms of the applicable program. Additional benefits may apply based on skills, experience, and location.
