Overview Stantec is hiring a Project Designer / Security Specialist for ICT Consulting. The role is in Stantec’s Buildings team, focusing on Physical Security consulting and design within the Physical Security and Technology Practice. The consultant applies technical skills to manage project deliverables, including research, client consulting and design regarding Physical Security needs and integration strategies for asset protection and security systems.

Responsibilities

Develop Physical security requirements and technical solutions for the built environment, including logical network drawings and technical specifications for both Security measures and Electronic Security requirements. Security measures and Electronic Security systems include but are not limited to: Access Control, Video Surveillance, Intrusion detection, Intercom, Barriers and Crash Rated systems, Data Network Systems, IoT Systems.

Apply basic technical skills and design documentation processes to produce accurate and timely deliverables.

Handle design development and document preparation in written and computer-aided design formats.

Collaborate with multiple discipline teams as part of a coordinated design team.

Delegate work to production support staff as needed under supervision.

Under the direction of the project manager, support project requirements including opinions-of-probable-costs estimates, drawing documentation and systems design.

Develop efficient and accurate design solutions; research, prepare, and present coordinated design options.

Review drawings and research code and standard issues to comply with city, state, county and federal regulations.

Communicate with manufacturers and contractors to address challenges and develop practical designs.

Provide contract documents that meet required codes and quality assurance standards.

Meetings and Projects

Attend in-house project meetings and client meetings as needed.

Actively participate in initiatives that support Business Center and company goals.

Learning and Skills Development

Develop and strengthen knowledge of technologies, trends and the markets in which we work as they apply to the Physical Security industry and applicable project types.

Pursue additional knowledge in related disciplines by attending in-house and external training.

Business Development

Contribute to strategic and tactical business development and marketing plans for the Technology group; align with firm-wide Technology goals.

Develop and maintain client relationships; develop presentation materials and present to clients and at industry events.

Represent the firm through articles, public speaking, industry events, and conferences.

Develop project proposals and assist marketing with Technology materials.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Extensive experience with Physical security systems and standards; knowledge of access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, duress alarms, perimeter protection, infant protection and other physical security systems design.

Knowledge of IT and OT networks, wireless, CATV, nurse call and audiovisual systems.

Knowledge of Building Automation/Management systems.

Knowledge of Electrical and mechanical systems as they relate to physical security requirements.

Ability to prepare detailed design drawings with supervision; integrate design elements with other disciplines to deliver a coordinated design.

Basic knowledge of codes and standards including UL, ANSI/TIA and ASIS best practices.

Strong communication and presentation skills; ability to prepare and present professional reports and recommendations.

Familiarity with BIM software (AutoCAD MEP and Revit MEP); strong MS Office skills.

Experience, Education, and Certification

Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, etc.) and 5+ years of experience, or equivalent.

PSP Certification strongly desired. CPP, PSC, CPTED, and other technology certifications are advantageous.

Must have all travel documents and a valid driver's license with clean MVR.

Other Qualifications

Strong BIM knowledge; AutoCAD MEP and Revit MEP.

Experience with Visio; knowledge of specialty calculations.

Familiarity with sustainable design principles.

Location and Schedule

Office location: Irvine, California.

Weekday attendance (Monday - Friday) with some scheduling flexibility.
