Overview Brand & Design Manager role at Girl Scouts of Northern California. The Marketing & Communications Design Manager is a hands-on creative role responsible for bringing the Girl Scout brand to life through original design work and visual storytelling. Reporting to the VP of Marketing & Communications, this role leads the creation and execution of branded assets across digital, print, and video channels to support key organizational goals including membership growth, program participation, and community visibility. Regular travel throughout Northern California is expected, and proximity to our Alameda office is preferred. Reliable transportation is essential.

Serve as GSNorCal’s lead designer and brand steward, ensuring all visual assets align with established brand guidelines and voice. Design and produce high-impact materials across formats, including flyers, email graphics, annual program and membership guides, social media content, web visuals, signage, and short-form video. Take full ownership of assigned design projects from initial concept through final delivery, including revisions and quality control. Collaborate with team members on campaign strategy and messaging to ensure design and content work in harmony. Support girl-generated content development by leading the Media Squad program to mentor contributors and producing branded assets. Source, manage, and edit imagery, illustrations, and creative assets for campaigns and projects. Attend Girl Scout events or site visits to gather original content, photography, and video assets as needed. Manage and maintain GSNorCal’s internal and external brand centers, including style guides, templates, logos, and approved assets. Update and enforce brand and style guides and templates to ensure consistency across teams, platforms, and volunteer use. Content & Digital Support
Update and maintain web graphics and visual elements on GSNorCal’s website and microsites in collaboration with the Digital team. Support production of marketing emails, blog posts, and other content with branded graphics and layout support. Ensure all designs meet accessibility standards and reflect the organization’s values and commitment to inclusion. Collaborate with the Social Media Associate to align visual content with social strategy, and support analytics and performance tracking where needed. Project & Workflow Management
Manage design and content requests through the department’s project management system, ensuring clarity, timelines, and delivery expectations are met. Communicate proactively with team members and stakeholders to manage handoffs, feedback, and shifting priorities. Track timelines and approvals to keep projects on schedule and aligned with organizational priorities. Support budget tracking for creative services and coordinate with vendors as needed. Maintain branded promotional materials templates and provide visual tools and training to staff and volunteers using brand resources and assets. Support other duties as assigned. Essential Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Multimedia Arts, or a related creative field. 5–8 years of relevant design experience, ideally in a nonprofit, agency, or in-house marketing environment. Strong portfolio demonstrating brand-aligned visual storytelling, layout design, and digital graphics. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere Pro or Rush) and Canva. Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects at once. Strong attention to detail and commitment to brand consistency. Effective communicator with the ability to take and incorporate feedback productively. Personal accountability and ownership of deliverables, from start to finish. Commitment to equity, inclusion, and belonging. Reliable transportation for travel across Northern California. Desired Qualifications
Bilingual (Spanish), knowledge of other languages, and cultural awareness. Familiarity with/experience using marketing tools such as Salesforce Marketing Cloud, MailChimp, AgoraPulse, AirTable, WordPress, Adobe Experience Manager, Google Analytics, Canva, and Project Management Applications such as Asana. Knowledge of the Girl Scout mission, programs, and movement. Experience working with volunteers.
