Lions Tigers & Bears is a nationally accredited, non-profit big cat and exotic animal sanctuary located in Alpine, California. We are dedicated to providing a lifetime home to abused and abandoned exotic animals while educating the public about the perils of the exotic animal trade. We are committed to animal welfare, conservation, and advocacy, creating a safe haven for animals who cannot be released into the wild.
Position Summary
The Grant Writer (Independent Contractor) will be responsible for identifying, researching, and securing grant opportunities to support the sanctuary’s operational, educational, and expansion goals. This role requires strong research skills, persuasive writing abilities, attention to detail, and a deep passion for animal welfare. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of successfully obtaining funding for nonprofit organizations.
Responsibilities
- Research and identify potential grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government agencies that align with the sanctuary’s mission and programs.
- Prepare, write, and submit compelling grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and funding applications.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director to gather information and create accurate, impactful proposals.
- Analyze grant results to refine future application strategies.
- Ensure all proposals comply with funder guidelines and organizational policies.
- Write and submit LOI’sin time for funder to read and renew.
- Utilize client’s resources of staff leadership and historical documents to gather materials and information to write strong grant proposals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience securing grants for animal welfare, wildlife conservation, or environmental causes.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal grant opportunities in California.
- Passion for animal welfare and alignment with the mission of Lions Tigers & Bears.
- Keep up master grant calendar.
- Write grant acknowledgements - thank you and follow up letters.
