Overview
The Director is the academic and production facilitator of the MFA program, which currently focuses on directing, producing, and screenwriting. The Director oversees all aspects of the program, including student recruitment, application, and matriculation, coordination of the academic spaces both on the UGA campus and at the Studio Production Learning Center at Athena Studios in Athens, and overseeing equipment purchases and repairs. The Director may teach one to two classes per semester in the program. The Director reports to the dean of Grady College and is a key member of the MFA in Film, Television, and Digital Media faculty, along with partners, the Georgia Film Academy, and other sponsors of the program.
Responsibilities
- Oversee curricula, class schedules, and faculty assignments (including hiring of part-time instructors with consultation from full-time faculty).
- Coordinate student recruitment, applications, going through matriculation processes.
- Manage program spaces on campus and at external sites; oversee equipment purchases and repairs.
- Collaborate with department heads and administration on program operations from orientation through convocation.
- Engage with partners and sponsors of the MFA program.
Minimum Qualifications
- All candidates must have an MFA or Ph.D. in film and/or media production or a related discipline.

The Director of the MFA program also oversees all curricula, class schedules, advises the department heads on faculty teaching assignments, the hiring of part-time instructors (with consultation from full-time faculty), production staff, and other administrative tasks related to the program from orientation through convocation. The Director is also a key member of the MFA in Film, Television, and Digital Media faculty, along with partners, the Georgia Film Academy, and other sponsors of the program. The Director reports to the dean of Grady College. The Director may teach one to two classes per semester in the program.
Additional Requirements
- Candidates without a terminal degree must document exceptional accomplishments in their respective field and must be approved for a terminal degree exception before hire.
- Applicants must be currently eligible to work in the United States.
