Responsibilities
- Provide instruction in Information Competency, in both classroom and library settings.
- Cover topics including recognizing information needs, information retrieval, evaluation of information, information formats, presenting information effectively, and understanding legal and ethical aspects of information.
- Deliver instruction using multiple teaching methodologies; may include day, evening, weekend classes, large classes, and distance learning.
- Perform academic reference duties; instruct in the use of the library\'s online resources; develop and present library research and writing workshops.
- Promote library resources to faculty; engage in general library activities such as collection development and development of subject guides.
- Maintain currency in subject matter; develop and revise curriculum; utilize computer and multimedia technology.
- Engage in collegial activities within the department, college, and discipline-specific professional activities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's in library science, library and information science, or the equivalent. Applicants with equivalent qualifications may be considered; must submit an Application for Equivalence if claiming equivalent qualifications.
- A demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community college students.
- Degrees/credits must be from accredited institutions; foreign degrees must be evaluated by a NACES/ACEI member evaluation service.
Knowledge & Abilities
- Broad preparation and depth of knowledge in the discipline; ability to work with diverse student populations.
- Ability to develop curriculum for multiple modalities; effective written and oral communication; ability to assess student learning outcomes.
- Knowledge of computers and openness to new technologies; commitment to the California community college mission.
