Please Note: Kern Community College District accepts applications for part-time, hourly faculty pools on a continuous basis. Applications submitted will remain active for up to two years. The starting salary range is $60.00/hour; Hourly rate may vary based on assignment and the Lecture Hour Equivalent (LHE) formula. Representative Duties

The successful applicant will be expected to provide instruction in Information Competency, both in the classroom and within the library. Information Competency topics include recognizing an information need, information retrieval, evaluation of information, information formats, presenting information effectively, and understanding legal and ethical aspects of information.

This assignment may include day or evening classes, weekend classes, large classes, distance learning, and using multiple teaching methodologies.

Other duties include: performing academic reference, instruction in the use of the library's online resources, developing and presenting library research and writing workshops, promotion of library resources to faculty, and other general library activities such as collection development, developing subject guides and promotion and outreach. Additional duties include maintaining subject matter currency; developing and revising curriculum; using computer and multimedia technology; collegial participation in departmental, college and discipline-specific professional activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's in library science, library and information science OR equivalent. Certain combinations of education, experience, and other accomplishments in the field may be judged as equal to the stated minimum qualifications. Candidates with equivalent qualifications must request and submit an APPLICATION FOR EQUIVALENCE form with supporting documents. Minimum Qualifications for Faculty and Administration in California Community Colleges. And a demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students. Degrees and credits must be from accredited institutions (Title V Section 53406). Foreign degrees require evaluation by a NACES or ACEI member evaluation service. Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee an interview.

The Successful Applicant will be broadly prepared with depth of knowledge in the discipline and will be able to demonstrate:

  • Ability to participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges and universities

  • Ability to assess student learning outcomes
  • Knowledge of computers and willingness to explore new technologies that benefit the program
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the California community college mission
