Overview

Full Time Assistant Customer Service Manager in the Newport News/Williamsburg/Norfolk areas. Supervises up to 120 associates in the Customer Service Department (cashiers, baggers, customer service clerks) and accounting office. Assists the Department Manager with the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these departments. Performs duties in accordance with Harris Teeter's policies and standards. Location: Hampton, Virginia, Store 460 - Willow Oaks Village Sq. Requisition: 2516520.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise up to 120 associates in the Customer Service Department and accounting office, and perform duties of customer service clerks, accounting office associates, cashiers, and baggers as appropriate.
  • Assist the Department Manager with the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these departments.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Harris Teeter’s policies and standards, including floor monitor duties, interviewing and training associates, planning, assigning, and directing work, and appraising performance.
  • Provide immediate coaching/feedback to associates who are not in compliance with expectations.
  • Ensure that items listed on the Customer Service Store Visit Audit and Loss Prevention Front End Audit are performed.
  • Engage in customer service training and orientation to increase customer satisfaction and sales.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or GED; or 1–3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Personal Skills: commitment to exceptional customer service; strong communication and interpersonal skills; willingness to participate in required training.
  • Language Skills: ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and write simple correspondence in English; ability to present information in one-on-one and small group situations in English.
  • Computer Skills: knowledge of HT Internet software, e-mail, inventory software, spreadsheet software, and word processing software.
  • Mathematical Skills: ability to perform basic arithmetic and work with units of money, weight, volume, and distance.
  • Reasoning Ability: ability to apply common sense and work with several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Training: complete Company training including new hire orientation, customer service network, safety, customer service clerk technical skills, floor monitor technical skills, and Department manager training.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The associate is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, reach, talk, and hear. The associate may occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The associate must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 40 pounds, with reaching distances as described. Specific vision abilities include close vision and depth perception.

Work Environment

The work environment typically includes exposure to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts; occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and extreme cold.
