Overview
Monika Kaplan Design is a small, high-end residential interior design studio located in Marin County, just outside of San Francisco. We are looking to add a Mid-Level or Senior Interior Designer to our team who is interested in growing their role in a rapidly developing design studio. This role is a part-time, contract position with the possibility of evolving to full time. To be considered, you MUST be located in the San Francisco Bay Area. Client and vendor facing activities including project meetings, sourcing, project management and installations. We’re looking for someone excited to put down roots with us, open to the potential of a full-time role and staying for the long term. Key Responsibilities
DESIGN DEVELOPMENT
Produce detailed and accurate CAD drawings including floor plans, elevations, RCPs, lighting plans, millwork, plumbing and construction details. Develop kitchen and bath concepts with complete drawing sets and specifications. Assemble and manage comprehensive construction documentation packages (demo, build, electrical, finish, and millwork). Generate furniture layouts, custom furniture drawings, and elevations. Produce polished client-facing presentations.
PROJECT & CLIENT COORDINATION
Lead communication with contractors, architects, and fabricators to ensure design intent is carried through construction. Attend and document site visits and construction meetings, coordinating design and technical details on the ground. Source and specify FF&E, finishes, lighting, plumbing, and hardware from luxury vendors. Track FF&E and budgets using Studio Designer. Oversee custom furniture and fabrication, including review of shop drawings and vendor check-ins.
TEAM & STUDIO SUPPORT
Collaborate directly with the Principal and team members to translate concepts into realized interiors. Maintain organized drawing sets, project schedules, budgets and digital archives.
Qualifications
Must be San Francisco Bay Area based. 4+ years of experience in high-end residential interior design. Highly skilled in AutoCAD, Studio Designer, Adobe Suite, and Google Workspace. Extensive knowledge of construction documentation and architectural detailing. Confident leading client and contractor meetings while managing multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills. Highly detail-oriented, proactive, and adaptable in a remote work environment.
