KEY DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
Support and report directly to the Public Affairs Officer (PAO). Assist in developing, implementing, and managing the office’s social media strategy. Manage and maintain office intranet and internet websites in compliance with DOJ standards. Ensure websites have current content, functional links, correct formatting, and appealing visual layout. Manage content for social media platforms including Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc. Draft and post content, messages, and captions tailored to DOJ’s mission and goals. Maintain a calendar of social media posts and office events, highlighting monthly initiatives. Attend events, take photos/videos, and post documentation on office platforms. Capture high-quality video, audio, and images using DSLR camera and external equipment. Broadcast live content via WebEx, Zoom, or similar platforms. Create/edit media using tools like Adobe Creative Suite, Camtasia, or Adobe Premiere. Disseminate publications, announcements, and releases via social platforms. Use tools like Hootsuite to manage and schedule social media content. Monitor and analyze performance of social media outreach and messaging. Provide monthly or periodic reports to PAO on social media impact. Stay up to date with DOJ and EOUSA social media standards and implement updates. Produce public service announcements, historical office projects, and multimedia content. Attend training sessions as appropriate to stay updated on best practices. Ensure all content complies with DOJ privacy and media regulations. Assist PAO in managing and editing press releases, newsletters, and internal publications. Track media coverage and use clipping services and searches for press monitoring. Assist with organizing press events and handling press/public inquiries. May require periodic evening or weekend hours (within 40-hour weekly max). Support PAO with media file organization and content quality assurance. Draft, proofread, and format documents using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and other relevant software. Ensure accuracy and quality control over all public-facing content. Perform other related media, content, and administrative tasks as assigned. EXPERIENCE and/or EDUCATION
Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field 2–3 years of relevant experience in content creation, digital media, or public relations KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES
Proficiency with digital media tools (Adobe Suite, Camtasia, Premiere). Familiarity with web maintenance, HTML/CSS is a plus. Strong writing, proofreading, and editing skills. Ability to create engaging content tailored for multiple platforms. Experience with livestreaming and video conferencing tools (WebEx, Zoom). Skill in photography, videography, and use of DSLR cameras and audio tools. Experience with social media analytics and marketing tools (Hootsuite, etc.). Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Knowledge of DOJ media regulations – TBD. Ability to work flexible hours and manage competing priorities.
