Summary

Reporting to the Design Supervisor, the Senior Designer is responsible for transforming technical requirements into functional designs by creating detailed drawings for approval, fabrication, and/or installation. This role provides assistance to all design staff, as well as to the Project Management team. The Senior Designer will also serve as a mentor to new and existing design staff on topics including, but not limited to, best practices, industry standards, and company specific standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Independently completes all project designs of varying complexity as delegated by supervisor
  • Completes projects accurately, and on time, adhering to design standards
  • Creates technical drawings in 2D and 3D following specifications and calculations
  • Revises drawings and incorporates information into drawings per engineering specifications
  • Prepares and reviews project drawings along with the engineering team and Project Managers to identify and communicate potential problems
  • Reads and interprets building drawings
  • Works collaboratively with Project Engineers and other departments
  • Identifies and communicates potential design problems to the design staff and Project Managers
  • Contributes ideas for continuous improvement

Education and/or Experience

  • High School diploma is required
  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering or Building Construction related field preferred
  • 3 years of experience in a drafting position preferred

Technical skills

  • Proficiency working with AutoCAD 2016 or higher
  • Familiarity with Tekla or other 3D CAD systems preferred
  • Understanding of engineering processes, familiarity with engineering information and data sources
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) required
  • Clear understanding of bills of material, drawings, design data, and design standards necessary
  • Ability to read and interpret complex specifications is required
  • Fluent in product design principles and the production of structural and mechanical components and systems

General skills

  • Planning and time management skills: must be able to manage multiple priorities and complex tasks, often conflicting in nature, to achieve commitment dates

  • Ability to ask questions
