Overview

The Complex Director of Sales & Marketing (CDOSM) is responsible for driving profitability and strategic growth across two properties: The San Diego Mission Valley Marriott and the all-new Element by Westin Mission Valley. This role leads all facets of sales, including group and transient segments, while building and nurturing client relationships, developing strategic plans, and maximizing revenue through effective sales team leadership, team accountability and market penetration. This role also oversees the Catering and Event Management team encompassing all aspects of the sales group.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all aspects of the sales division with a focus on revenue optimization and growth.
  • Develop and execute strategic sales plans, budgets, and forecasts aligned with company goals.
  • Build, coach, inspire and hold accountable a high-performing sales team.
  • Create a performance-driven culture focused on collaboration, accountability, and achievement.
  • Analyze the competitive landscape to refine strategy and capture market share.
  • Establish and grow relationships with key corporate, group, and transient clients.
  • Partner with Finance to ensure budgets and forecasts align with revenue expectations.
  • Generate new business opportunities to meet and exceed set goals.
  • Maintain and grow current client relationships to ensure long-term profitability.
  • Actively engage in prospecting, lead qualification, cold calling, and client presentations.
  • Create and execute strategic plans to drive account acquisition and retention.
  • Identify growth opportunities within current accounts and present tailored solutions.
  • Represent the hotel at trade shows, conferences, and industry events; conduct post-event ROI analysis.
  • Maintain visibility and regular communication with executives of key and prospective accounts.
  • Prepare and oversee business development plans, forecasts, and sales strategies.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with operations and other departments to ensure client satisfaction.
  • Stay informed on client needs, business challenges, and industry trends to offer proactive solutions.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of 5+ years in hotel sales leadership with proven revenue results.
  • Strong understanding of Marriott brand sales systems, reports, and tools (CI/TY, Cvent, etc.).
  • Exceptional communication (written and verbal) and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated success in leading and motivating sales teams.
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Skilled in negotiation, project management, and consultative selling.
  • Able to build credibility and work effectively with all levels of an organization.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; knowledge of CI/TY and Cvent preferred.
  • Creative, adaptable, and results-driven with strong problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines with efficiency and poise.
  • Versatility and enthusiasm to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
