Position Summary

Obermeyer is seeking a Technical Designer with a background in Outerwear and performance apparel. This position manages the day-to-day deliverables related to the construction and execution of our product. This role will work directly with internal functions, including the Creative Director, Product Line Managers, Sourcing, contract designers, and factories. The ideal candidate must be skilled in cross-functional collaboration, have an exceptional understanding of garment construction, fit, and sourcing, and be able to meet development timelines. Ability to communicate and make critical decisions while working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced creative environment is essential.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with design team to execute styles from initial concept to production.
  • Collaborate with design and production teams to source and develop garment trims.
  • Assist in managing fit sessions. Maintain grade rules and fit consistency across all products.
  • Maintain and communicate accurate proto specification packages, including illustrations and technical sketches, fabric and trims, construction details, bill of materials, fit comments and sample tracking.
  • Track all fit samples to ensure movement through the product development process in coordination with the development calendar.
  • Work with design and production teams to achieve costing targets and hit stated price point and margin goals while achieving design goals.
  • Communicate effectively with factories as the primary contact on development and confirmation of all styles.
  • Request and track samples and sample status.
  • Provide information to Customer Service to address product questions.
  • Review QC issues with teams and factories to evaluate and clarify issues and suggest improvements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Understanding of apparel product processes from initial tech pack to top-of-production approval for outerwear and performance apparel
  • Knowledge of PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) systems
  • Knowledge of garment manufacturing processes
  • 5-8 years of experience in a broad range of sportswear and knits and outerwear garments preferred
  • Excellent attention to detail with strong follow-through. Able to organize and prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong computer skills and the ability to obtain information from various systems
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Adobe Illustrator
  • Effective written and verbal communication with a diverse audience
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Willingness to travel

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand, type, and sit at a desk/computer for most of the work shift with repetitive movements
