Speech and Communication Adjunct Instructor Job at Virginia's Community College

Overview

Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) invites applications for adjunct faculty positions for the Speech and Communication Adjunct Instructor role. Adjunct faculty are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in a classroom environment to students with a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences. Instructional faculty must reside in the state of Virginia or be available to teach in-person classes at SWCC locations (Main Campus, Lebanon, Bluefield, Southern Gap).

Responsibilities

• Plan and teach courses in a classroom environment to students with diverse backgrounds.


• Adapt to a variety of teaching situations and use technology to teach effectively.


• Participate in achieving the College’s mission and goals; uphold the College’s values; engage in program evaluation.


• May be required to perform other duties as assigned; may assist the agency or state government in emergencies.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree with at least eighteen graduate semester hours in the specific discipline.


• Official transcripts required prior to final offer.


• Ability to demonstrate the use of relevant technology and learning management systems to facilitate teaching, learning, assessment, and communication.


• Commitment to student engagement in the online teaching environment, including maintaining consistent communication and virtual support mechanisms to ensure student success.


• Technology capability (access to Wi‑Fi, computers) to teach remotely.


• All teaching positions require the ability to teach in a variety of modalities including virtually.


• Demonstrate competency and commitment to continuous professional development in virtual education.

Additional Considerations

• Prior teaching experience.


• Work experience in the field and experience with online teaching.


• Experience with online course development in both synchronous and asynchronous environments at a regionally accredited institution.
