Job Description
Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) offers career-training programs in numerous technical, industrial and medical fields at a reasonable cost, including waivers for eligible students. Located in Richlands, Virginia, SWCC offers associate's degrees in business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science, with some degrees leading to transfer to a four-year university. SWCC also offers associate degrees in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice.
SWCC invites applications for adjunct faculty positions. The College seeks faculty who will adapt to a variety of teaching situations, can use technology to teach effectively, and will work effectively with students, staff, and others in a climate that promotes cultural diversity and student success.
Other responsibilities include participation in the College's mission and goals, upholding the College's values, and personal and program evaluation. Adjunct faculty are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in a classroom environment to students with diverse academic backgrounds. Instructional faculty must reside in Virginia or be available to teach in-person at SWCC locations (Main Campus, Lebanon, Bluefield, Southern Gap).
Responsibilities / Qualifications
- Qualifications: Master’s Degree with at least eighteen graduate semester hours in the specific discipline. Official transcripts required prior to final offer. Ability to demonstrate the use of relevant technology and learning management systems to facilitate teaching, learning, assessment, and communication. Commitment to student engagement in online teaching, including maintaining consistent communication and virtual support for student success. Technology capability (wifi, computers) to teach remotely. Ability to teach in a variety of modalities including virtual.
- Responsibilities: Teach courses effectively in a classroom environment to students with varied backgrounds; adapt to multiple teaching modalities; promote student success and cultural diversity; participate in program evaluation and contribute to the College’s mission.
Additional Considerations
Prior teaching experience; work experience in the field; experience with online teaching; substantial, proven experience with innovative teaching and developing online courses in both synchronous and asynchronous environments at a regionally accredited institution.
