Overview

Adjunct Faculty - Photography. Part-time position at Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA). Adjunct faculty are paid a per credit hour rate determined by rank and discipline. Assignment and teaching load depend on student enrollment and staffing needs. The adjunct contract contains no guarantee of continued employment. Must reside in the DMV area (DC, VA, MD).

Responsibilities

• Teach specific classes in Photography within the designated discipline.
• Develop course syllabi and instructional materials.
• Maintain records, assign grades, and assess student progress.
• Adhere to NOVA and VCCS policies, procedures, and regulations.
• Maintain current competence in the field of specialization.

Essential Functions

Provide quality instruction; meet assigned classes regularly; submit required records and reports; teach prescribed courses with established texts; uphold professional ethics per College policies.

Other Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned, including assisting the agency or state government in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's / Required Qualifications

KSA’s

• Ability to teach courses in Photography.
• Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and oral/written communication skills.
• Ability to relate basic principles of Photography to students.
• Ability to use instructional technology.

Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree in the teaching field or a master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching field. Degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution.
• Minimum of two years of full-time related occupational experience (part-time experience converted to full-time equivalent).

Additional Considerations

• Prior experience teaching in higher education.
• Experience teaching in classroom, hybrid, and online formats.
• Commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment.
• Experience teaching students from diverse language backgrounds and varying proficiency levels.
• Up-to-date knowledge of photography and related media, with college-level teaching experience or several years of verifiable relevant work experience.
