Position Adjunct Faculty - Photography
Location Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) – Alexandria area and other DMV locations
Role Type Part Time; Pay is on a per credit hour basis. Assigned rank and discipline determine the rate.
Responsibilities
Overview
Adjunct faculty are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in photography to students from diverse backgrounds. Instruction may be face-to-face, remote, or online. Adjunct faculty teach up to 12 credit hours in the fall and spring and up to 8 credit hours in the summer. Teaching load is based on student enrollment and staffing needs. The adjunct contract does not guarantee continued employment. Must reside in the DMV area (DC/VA/MD).
Duties And Tasks
- Teach specific classes in the designated discipline.
- Develop course syllabi and instructional materials.
- Maintain records, assign grades, and assess student progress.
- Adhere to policies, procedures, and regulations of NOVA and the VCCS.
- Maintain current competence in the particular discipline or field of specialization.
Essential Functions
Meet assigned classes regularly; submit required records and reports; teach prescribed courses with established texts; adhere to professional ethics per College policies, procedures, and regulations.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May assist the agency or state government in emergency declarations.

- Ability to teach courses in Photography.
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent analytical skills
- Excellent oral/written communication skills
- Ability to relate basic principles of Photography to students
- Ability to use instructional technology
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in the teaching field or master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching field from a regionally accredited institution.
- A minimum of two years of full-time, related occupational experience (part-time experience converted to full-time equivalent).

- Prior experience teaching in higher education
- Experience teaching in classroom, hybrid, and online formats
- Commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment
- Experience teaching students from diverse language backgrounds
- Up-to-date knowledge of the professional field of photography and related media
