Job Title: Social Media Specialist

The Social Media Specialist reports to the Social Media Manager and helps manage the social media presence for the CU Anschutz Medical Campus. This role develops social media content that supports the campus social media strategy, guides and executes the content calendar across platforms such as Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube, and captures the voice of the CU Anschutz brand in social post copy.
Additional responsibilities include creating, scheduling and posting content, monitoring commentary, and producing original content to showcase the campus to digital audiences. The role also involves photography and videography work.
Responsibilities
- Works closely with the social media manager to manage university social presence in alignment with the defined strategy and tone for each platform
- Creates audience-centered, meaningful and engaging social media content across all platforms
- Identifies emerging social media trends or features to implement or review with the social media manager
- Monitors external responses across platforms and responses when appropriate
- Attends and promotes on-campus events; shoots high-quality photo and video to highlight on social media
- Maintains a list of CU Anschutz-affiliated accounts and communicates with account managers as needed
- Participates in creative brainstorming during social media meetings to provide content inspiration and insights
Work Location
Hybrid — two (2) days per week on campus and in-person meetings as needed.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism, public relations, communications, business administration, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
- Two (2) years of professional level experience, including at least one (1) year managing and executing social media for a professional organization.
Substitution: A combination of education and related experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis. Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism, communications, public relations or a related field
- 2-3 years of professional experience in social media, including paid and organic
- Experience executing social media strategy in a professional or business environment
- Ability to write dynamically for new media that captures attention and reflects the campus voice
- Experience producing engaging video content for social media
- Prior experience in healthcare communications, public health, or academic medicine is desirable
Conditions of Employment
- Employees designated as critical must report to work as needed during emergency situations
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of social platforms (Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube) and ability to leverage trends
- Excellent written communication, copy editing and proofreading
- Ability to tell stories through writing and visuals
- Problem-solving ability
- Adaptable self-starter who can work independently and with a team
- Ability to create visuals using Canva and social platform tools
- Ability to interpret analytics and adapt strategies to increase awareness and engagement
- Ability to manage a diverse workload and prioritize in a shifting social landscape

- Flexibility to work outside regular hours when needed

Anticipated Pay Range: $54,254 - $65,000. This position may be eligible for overtime in accordance with policy. Total compensation includes benefits.
